Cameron Iron Works is an historic industrial building located in Houston’s East End neighborhood. The building was the original location of oil field manufacturing company, Cameron Iron Works. As such, the developer worked with the historical preservation society to give the space new life while respecting the history of the structure. It is one of the first developments that features the conversion of shipping containers into both workspace and retail pop up opportunities.

SIGNIFICANT PROJECT FEATURES

• CFI Companies worked with a glass manufacturer calculate modern U values to reduce solar heat gain (SHG) while retaining the historic clear look.
• Historic preservation also requred HVAC to be “hidden” with line of sight requirements. No ductwork sits lower than 18 feet, and units are centralized on the roof and on the ground so they are not visible from the street.
• More than 20 interior shipping containers feature fans that circulate air in and out of the smaller enclosed spaces.
